Yamile Zabana is a gastroenterologist at the Hospital Universitari Mútua de Terrassa, which is affiliated to the University of Barcelona in Spain. She qualified with an MD from the medical school of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador in Quito, Ecuador, in 2001 then moved to Barcelona to take up a gastroenterology and hepatology residency at the Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol in Barcelona, Spain. She was awarded a PhD cum laude from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2015, for her thesis entitled “Transcriptomic profile of post-surgical recurrence of Crohn’s disease”.
Dr Zabana’s main research interests are in varied aspects of management and treatment of Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), including the management of infections in patients with these conditions and the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on their treatment. She has published widely on CD and UC, in peer-reviewed journals including Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis, Gastroenterology & Hepatology, and United European Gastroenterology Journal. Dr Zabana is a member of several organizations in the field of gastroenterology, including the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO) and the Spanish Association of Gastroenterology (AEG).
